Because of early issues with decoding, some adults with dyslexia may have developed coping strategies that include sight-reading, which relies on whole word recognition. Problems can still show up, especially when reading unfamiliar words out loud or trying to decode nonsense words in children’s books. Once diagnosed, adults with dyslexia can benefit from accommodations in school, the workplace, and at home that can help them compensate for challenges and perform to the best of their abilities.
